Audubon Bird Walk -

April 10 and October 2 (8 - 10 a.m.)

The Blackwater Heritage Trail, in cooperation with the local chapter of the Francis Weston Audubon Society, invites the public to a Trail Migratory Bird Walk scheduled from 8 to 10 a.m. The walk will start from the parking lot located at Munson Hwy / County Rd 191 north of Milton where the trail crosses the highway. To reach the parking lot, turn East on Oliver St. off of Stewart St./ State Highway 87 in Milton and stay straight. Oliver St. turns into County Rd. 191. Autumn migration has arrived, so join us in a fun and educational walk down the trail to view the recent arrival of birds heading South for the winter! Please bring your own water and binoculars if you have them.

Trail Book Swap -

April 10 and October 2 (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)

 

The Blackwater Heritage Trail Citizen Support Organization invites the public to participate in a Free Book Swap scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Trail Visitor Center next to the Milton Library on Alabama St. Bring books, take books…no limit. Fun and promotes reading at all ages. 

 

The Blackwater Heritage State Trail is officially designated as part of Florida’s Statewide System of Greenways and Trails.  The trail is the westernmost rail to trail in the state, extending from Milton to Whiting Field Naval Air Station.  Managed by the Department of Environmental Protection Office of Greenways and Trails, it also connects the Military Trail, which is managed by the Department of the Navy.  Blackwater Heritage Trail, Inc. is a Florida non-profit organization serving as the Citizen Support Organization for the Blackwater Heritage State Trail.

5th Annual Blackwater Bicycle Festival -

May 15 (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.)

Get ready all you bicycle enthusiasts! The Fifth Annual Blackwater Bicycle Festival will take place May 15th, 2010-the 3rd Saturday in May-from 9 am to 3 pm at the Blackwater Heritage State Trail Visitor Center @ 5533 Alabama St Milton, Fl (next to the library).There will be many cycles to see and opportunities to test ride. Bring your cycle or creation and add to the fun! Trophies will be awarded in a Bicycle Show for a variety of categories with a $5 per bike entrance fee. Two Bicycle Prediction Rides will also be hosted with cash prizes to be awarded. For additional details and pre-registration forms, please visit the trail website at www.blackwaterheritagetrail.org.  All proceeds will be used to benefit the trail. Please come enjoy celebrating bicycles with us! The trail is ADA accessible, so we encourage participation by the physically-disabled in all trail events.

Blackwater Bicycle Festival Prediction Ride -

May 15 (10 a.m.)

 

The Blackwater Heritage State Trail Citizen Support Organization will be hosting a Bicycle Predication Ride in celebration of the 5th Annual Blackwater Bicycle Festival at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 15th at the Blackwater Heritage Trail Visitor’s Center in Milton (5533 Alabama St. next to the city library).  To participate in a prediction ride, one submits the time he/she thinks it will take for him/her to make that ride. The person closest to their predicted time wins! It's not about speed-but about how accurate you can predict your own time! The prediction ride will start at the visitor’s center with two turn-arounds, one at State Road 191 (Munson HWY) and the other at Whiting Field parking lot.  Riders will be stamped at the turn-around points.  Watches, phones, speedometers, and other timers are not allowed.  Riders under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and must wear a helmet.  Winners of each ride will receive a cash award of 25% of the proceeds raised for the event.  Entry fee is $10.00.  If interested, pick up a registration form at area bicycle stores, the trail visitor center, or online at our website: www.blackwaterheritagetrail.org.

Annual Dog Walk -

September 11 (6 p.m.)

 
The Blackwater Heritage State Trail will host its annual Fall Dog Walk on the Blackwater Heritage Trail in Milton on Saturday September 11th from 6 to 7 pm. The walk traverses about 1 mile of the trail at a leisurely pace.  All participating dogs must be licensed and on a six foot leash.  It is highly recommended to bring water for yourself and your dog.  The walk will begin from the Trail visitor’s center located at 5533 Alabama St. next to the Milton Library. The Blackwater Heritage State Trail is ADA accessible, and we encourage participation by the physically and mentally disabled in all of our events.

12th Annual Fenner McConnell - Matt Wentz Memorial Blackwater Heritage Century Ride -

October 23 (8 a.m.)

Enjoy a day of great cycling through quiet roads in and around the Blackwater River State Park. The ride starts on the Blackwater Heritage State Trail, a rais to trails project awarded best of Florida. Distances are 42, 62 and 102 miles. Well stocked rest stops, fantastic volunteers and beautiful scenery all combine for a memorable event! Registration includes pre-and post-ride food, event T-shirt, limited sag support, fully stocked rest stops, well marked/signed roads, and maps.

A portion of the proceeds from the ride will go to the Blackwater Heritage State Trail for continual improvement of our trail.
